About the role
The role works within the International Department Programmes family and the wider programme funding and development remit. The role sits within the Christian Aid Zimbabwe country programme. The key function of the role is to support Climate Adaptation, Resilience and Humanitarian projects in the Zimbabwe country programme and ensure quality projects implementation while building and maintaining sound relationships with key stakeholders. The post-holder oversees work with partner organisations to ensure value chain development and export market opportunities for women involved in garlic, onion, paprika, beans, and honey production in Mashonaland East (Mutoko, Mudzi, Murehwa, Goromonzi) province of Zimbabwe are enhanced.
Key delivery areas for this role include programme support including quality and technical oversight (production and productivity for horticulture value chains, value addition and export market development) for the Women Economic Strengthening for Resilience Project (WESRP). The role must also deliver on reporting, project evaluation and enhancing internal and external learning, representation and connecting teams. The role additionally supports overall country programme development, fundraising initiatives and providing advice and sharing information on climate adaptation across the Country programme. The role will also engage with and promote communications, fundraising from institutional donors and representing Christian Aid in relevant forums.
About you
You have technical and practical knowledge of agricultural value chains, including value addition specifically for garlic, onion, paprika, beans, and honey, with recent experience in horticulture export market projects with a proven track record of implementing projects focused on horticultural export markets.
You have greater understanding of quality standards and certification procedures required for horticultural and honey exports, with ability to conduct thorough market research, including local and export market analysis. You have skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects, with a focus on business development and economic strengthening initiatives. You have experience in training and strengthening commodity groups to enhance production, productivity and profitability including skills in building partnerships with private sector stakeholders to support national and export market access and sustainability..
You have a greater understanding of financial management and access to finance for smallholder farmers and knowledge of M&E frameworks and tools to assess value chain project effectiveness and impact. You have a strong understanding of the local context and stakeholder landscape in the horticulture value chain and Mash East districts
You have a Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with small holder and private actors in the horticultural value chains, value addition and marketing (local and export) in Zimbabwe and other developing contexts, knowledge of Safeguarding, Core Humanitarian Standard, Sphere and Red Cross Code of Conduct, awareness of HAP.
You have Degree or equivalent in Agriculture Management (specialisation in Horticulture/ crops preferred, agribusiness) or a relevant technical discipline.

This role requires applicants to have the right to work in Zimbabwe where this position is based. The incumbent must be a permanent resident of Zimbabwe. Successful candidate will be expected to start immediately.
Contract terms: This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
