Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality. To help us on this journey, we’re now looking for an experienced Infrastructure/Operations Manager to help build the infrastructure, operations & connectivity vision and roadmap, as well as running (and improving) the existing infrastructure and operations environment.

About the role

Under the general direction of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), this role is responsible for the Infrastructure, Operations & Connectivity (IOC) function within ICT throughout Christian Aid. This includes data centre infrastructure (servers, storage, facilities, networking & appliances), data centre applications (primarily Microsoft, Citrix, VMWare), network administration, network engineering (VPN, VOIP, WAN), client environment engineering, and tier 3 support.

The role will also provide expert advice to management of information technology on systems, security and connectivity issues in country offices, as well as providing professional management and support to a dispersed team of Regional ICT Service Managers across the world.

About you

You will be required to create the infrastructure, operations & connectivity vision and roadmap, run (and improve) the infrastructure and operations environment successfully, deliver on major infrastructure projects, pilot and adopt appropriate innovative technologies and build and create the best infrastructure and operations team and ecosystem of partners. You will have managed the IT Infrastructure and Operations function of a large, complex, Global business.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of managing a small team to deliver in a fast-paced environment undertaking substantial technology, people and process change.

You will be able to demonstrate a strong technical foundation, combined with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders – a technologist at heart, you will be technically conversant in IT Infrastructure technologies and advancements in this area.

You will be able to confidently plan, prioritise, and manage significant (up to £1m) OPEX and CAPEX budgets. You will have a strong grasp of Security Standards and an understanding and awareness of best practice standards and practices including ITIL and Prince2

You will need strong soft skills to engage and influence at senior levels within the organisation globally, and will be able to motivate, inspire and develop team members. Solid influencing skills and a collaborative approach are key.

You will draw upon experience from a range of previous organisations, and be able to work at pace to get the job done.
